Treading

履 · Lǚ

Treading is hexagram 10 in the Book of Changes (履, Lǚ).

Hexagram 10

The judgement

It is hexagram 10 of the I Ching, formed by the Lake trigram below and the Heaven one above: six lines, three for each trigram. Treading is walking on the tiger’s tail: courage must travel with good manners. Whoever advances with respect is not bitten.

What it means today

You are about to enter delicate territory: hierarchies, prides, risks. Proceed with elegance and clarity. Clumsiness here is expensive.

Classic image

Heaven above, lake below: the strong and the glad. The wise person distinguishes high and low and sets the people’s purpose.

Love

In love, do not burst in. Ask for the step; honor the other’s times. Seduction is tact, not conquest.

Work

At work, respect protocols even if they seem empty: they are the floor you walk on. Then, if needed, reform them.

Relationships

In relationships, a wrong tone ruins a right intention. Modulate.

Decisions

Advance, but with an exit plan. Do not provoke someone who can harm you merely to prove courage.
